Education is the passport to a bright future, and this is especially true for the underprivileged, yet they are barred by their social status from obtaining this passport and trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty. This is what the CHOICE mentorship programme is for — to bring hope and crucial aid to grassroots students, and we need you to contribute to this grand vision!
Why this mentorship programme is beneficial to both the mentee and YOU
Students often have much less exposure due to their lack of connection and wealth. Sometimes simple information about competitions and events they can join or university application allows them to make a well-informed decision which can have a life-long impact!
For you, the mentor, not only is talking and playing with kids a fun thing to do to relieve stress during the intense Lent term, but also a valuable opportunity for you to acquire various transferable skills a mentor should have. In a CV this may demonstrate your strong communication skill and awareness to social issues, definitely a must-need item!
We would like to invite you to become a mentor in one of our two programmes:
A) Academic support for primary school students
- One 30-minute session per week
- Academic support, e.g. help on homework, revision, dictation, etc.
- Feel free to share what you have with the mentees! Be like big brothers/sisters to them!
B) Mentorship program for secondary students
- One 30-minute session every 2 weeks
- Provide advice on subject selection, career options, revision techniques, time management, etc.
- May also provide advice on any other matter! Relationships, ECAs, coping with stress, etc.. You can be both a mentor and a friend to the students!
Duration: 21 February – 17 April (30 min/week-fortnight)
We would appreciate it greatly if you could give special considerations to mentoring for primary school students, but participation in any form is graciously welcomed! Mentors from last year are also highly welcome to join us again – you may make use of existing material to save time and effort while still contributing greatly to the programme!
If you are interested, please fill in a short form via https://forms.gle/MsC7GsyBgA315Dx67 before 5/2 (Sat). It will take you less than 5 minutes! Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world, and we look forward to seeing you change the world with us soon!
